Some thoughts on global warming.
When Mike asked me if I would like to contribute, I thought, yes, why not?
A good place to start is the beginning, which goes back some months now, what with all the TV programs about man made global warming, I got to thinking is that really true? Are we that bad? First thing, just what is in the atmosphere, it comprises: -
|
78.08% |
Nitrogen |
|
20.95% |
Oxygen |
|
0.93% |
Argon |
|
0.038% |
Carbon Dioxide |
|
1.00% |
Water vapour. |
0.038% Carbon Dioxide, less than one percent? Humans are getting hysterical about less than one percent of CO2? Can so little gas do so much damage?
So, I Googled ‘natural climate change’ wow! Twenty four million pages! Too much information for this article, but I will point out some parts I hope will interest:
The thing that does seem to be having an effect on global warming are the 26,000 year tilt of the north pole towards the sun, so the northern hemisphere collects more sunlight, and the sun itself is warming up, the other planets in this solar system are warming up too, not just us, so I think its reasonable to suppose it’s the sun.
The sun also cools down, just before the start of an ice age. I watched with some interest the Time Team program about drowned Britain, one chap that was interviewed stated that Britain warmed up seven degrees in fifteen years after the last ice age, which is why the North Sea basin filled so quickly, seven degrees in fifteen years, and we cannot even manage one degree in ten years, how did stone age man manage it? No cars, aircraft, or power stations, not many humans either.
With the earth warming up, the permafrost in various countries is melting, releasing Methane and CO2, Methane being a worse gas that CO2 and a lot more off it, but not enough to measure in parts per million. CO2 is only 332 parts per million. Termites produce more Methane than cows, yes millions of cows, but billions of termites, rotting vegetation produces a lot of Methane too, and rubbish dumps, my local rubbish dump now collects it and burns it off, thanks for the CO2!
During the last 2,000 years, volcanic activity has gone up 300%, I think this was found in the ice core samples being taken throughout the glaciers. The volcanoes are spouting ten billion tons of particulate ash, CO2, Sulphur, Helium, Hydrogen, etc., makes the three billions tons we allegedly produce look a bit small.
I was surprised to see the met office graph showing that CO2 had gone up, but average global temperature had gone down.
Alaska has had its three coldest summers on record, and the earliest start to its winter since 1992. The UK has not had such an early snow fall since 1934.
Then there is that really bad winter of 1947/48. I think I had better mention the hot summer of ’76 and the one of 2006, Britain does not have a climate, just weather, like that last two crap summers.
A word about the profit of doom Mr Al Gore, one American on a blog I visit was quite upset to report seeing Mr Gore arrive by private jet at the nearest airport to the Lecture venue, then being driven by limo to the venue. And if you remember that famous graph of his, no mention of the fact that there are eight hundred years between the two graphs, and that more heat means more CO2, not more CO2 means more heat.
I don't wear sandals.
I never learned to drive, and could not afford a car now anyway, I do recycle what I can, kitchen waist goes into the compost bin, and I never cook more than I can eat, I don’t wear sandals. I think people like Greenpeace are like the electricity companies: they are just saying and doing what they can get away with and if you really want to know whats happening don't let them make up your mind for you, Google it!
